Long Bio

An innovative contra dance band from Western New York & Pennsylvania, Tunescape fearlessly explores the border between traditional music and modern groove.  Their music is wildly varied, borrowing material from nearly every dance music tradition imaginable and fusing it spontaneously into a colorful, crazy sound that is wholly unique.

Tim Ball is a dynamic fiddle player who brings training in classical music and jazz improvisation together with a love of dancing and music from Ireland and New England.

Rachel Bell grew up playing piano and exploring a wide range of folk instruments. Now focusing on accordion and wooden flute, she enjoys a busy gig schedule playing concerts and contra dances with Tunescape, Montage, and the Andrew and Noah VanNorstrand Band.

Jodi originally hails from Mobile, Alabama, and was immersed in music from an early age. She loves the rhythms of techno and electronic music as much as she enjoys contra dancing and fiddle tunes, and started Tunescape as a place where all of these things could come together.

Peter Blue decided to blow his first paycheck ever on one thing, and it turned out to be a mountain dulcimer. One thing led to another, and he now plays percussion, button accordion, and nyckelharpa, and calls contra dances.

Nadine Dyskant-Miller fell in love with classical flute at 8 years old and contra dance music at 11. Now studying music composition at the University of Michigan, Nadine also plays for concerts and dances with her mother Barbara in the band Confluence.

Tunescape’s infectious energy, driving rhythm, and wacky sense of humor have delighted dance and concert audiences throughout the northeast since 2005. Their debut CD, “Your Face,” was released in 2010.
